Dear Mr. Moore,

In your letter of September 26th, 1976 you include a photocopy from a plainly and obviously NON-official source. The which NON-official source of information seems to have grossly erred. The effusively informative non-official has evidently forgotten to place a book-mark in between the Schilas [sp?] fog report page for Voyage #3 repeat, voyage number three and between voyage number four, repeat, voyage #4. For it is all too evident that your informant has greatly blended factual information from voyage #3 and voyage #4 that it is the most incredibly confused piece of pure MIS-information EVER drawn up by a non-sailor about sailing ships at war and then compounded his misinformation by piling even more erroneous info on top of the misinformation he has just given.

C.M. Allende #2 March 7, 1977

In the annals of all maritime history your odd informant has probably produced the most shocking homogenization of fact, fancy, bald lies, and pure errors EVER conceived by the mind of both NON-official and officialdom in Washington and all elsewheres.

To begin with the Furuseth was laid-up for a YEAR after being thought to have been somewhat affected by the force-field which actually touched its foremost beam on its starboard side. As an article of scientific interest to naval scientists its many minutes-long contact with the periphery of that colossally enormous force-field was irresistible to naval scientists. What that force-field had or had not done to the entire ship (Furuseth) and to ALL (each, every, & ALL) of its parts and instruments is still YET a matter of scientific interest as the report of those naval investigators is still yet classified "SECRET."

You yourself seem to have a genius for either forgetting ALL facts and resultantly getting down a paper piece of horrid confusion or for just plain getting confused.

C.M. Allende #3 March 7, 1977

To correct you (I'll correct HIM later on) let me state that there were two invisible ships, one, the DE-173 and two another Destroyer Escort ship of the self-same type or larger than the DE-173. This simple fact is confirmed and verified and corroborated by an article in either "MANS" or "MALE" Magazine of either the SPRING of 1958 or the autumn of 1958 (perhaps 1959) which reveals the OTHER invisible ship to have so totally terrorized and panicked the JAPANESE navy in the Philippine Islands area that they actually dove into the Bay waters then tried to swim away from the oncoming DEVIL-DRAGON from "hell" that was sneakily and invisibly sliding through the waters and causing many Japanese warships to be blown to Jap hell thus "eating-up" good Jap sailors. Asiatic literature is replete with stories of "FLYING" Dragons (UFO's?) both visible and invisible which "shot" actual "FIRE" (LASER BEAMS??) out of their "eyes" (portholes or plastic gunports ??).

It has the superstitious Japanese of 33-34 years ago had an ancient mythological basis for their terror -

C.M. Allende #4 March 7, 1977

of DE-173's SISTER-ship when it was both attacking them and also invisible, too.

This article is based upon Japanese naval historical records (archives) and are sworn to by officers up to the rank of Rear-Admiral if I recall correctly enough the rank level.

Certainly those self-same Jap naval archives are available for verifying corroborative confirmation at this very moment IF you wish to go-ahead and substantiate that article in "MANS" or "MALE" magazine of 1958.

It is clearly evident, both from what is so plainly revealed in the article and from good logical deduction based on the facts given, that the DE-173's invisible sister-ship in the asiatic pacific ocean area used the favorite calvary tactic of a former U.S. ADMIRAL created a bit, of charging right through the dead-center of the enemy naval (AIR fleets DO use this tactic, too) fleet & shooting at all enemy ships laying on Both sides while laying down a confusing smoke screen.

C.M. Allende #5 March 7, 1977

However, logic informs an old battle-wise sailor like myself that this invisible sister-ship of the invisible DE-173 ever so much more likely slipped into the Philippine Islands Bay waters & on into the anchored small Jap fleet, then shot off its torpedo-missiles, from a stationary position, reloaded its missile tubes and shot-off all in them & so in this way had sensibly obtained double the maximum number of missiles that such a ship carries, then put out a large & long smoke screen as it BEGAN its real charge right through the very HEART of the enemy fleet, shooting at Japs Battleship Targets laying on both sides of its charge-path and thusly causing the enemy ship commanders to shoot BACK at what was really their own selves. This old tricky calvary tactic causes one half of their own "group" to shoot the hell out of the OTHER half of their own group & the OTHER half to shoot hell out of the one half, THUS SINKING BOTH HALVES WITH A…

C.M. Allende #6 March 7, 1977

An absolutely minimum number of attack units (horses, ships, airplanes, cruise-missiles) employed to DESTROY the absolutely MAXIMUM number of enemy-group units. In effect, it causes the INSTINCTIVE defensive reaction of warlike peoples in an group to shoot-down each other in terrified gibbering PANICing causing, from [sp?] EITHER smoke screen or invisibility OR by use of both invisibility (FIRST) then the follow-up of a smoke-screened charge through the enemy groups very heart, EACH HALF OF AN ENEMY GROUP TO SHOOT & DESTROY EACH OTHER NEARBY HALF.

I believe the battle of either Anidway [sp?] or the Coral Sea was won by a U.S. admiral employing this tactic & who, when asked to defend his use of what was THEN a purely Calvary tactic, said that his reason, simply put, was that "for all HE knew then enemy units were STILL YET SHOOTING AT & DESTROYING EACH OTHER." Unquote.

IN TODAYS WARS, A CRUISE-MISSILE ARMED WITH AUTOMATIC LASER -

C.M. Allende #7 March 7, 1977

LASER CANON AIMED BY "SOFT"-LASER TRACKING RADAR (A TARGET FINDER-DESTROYER APPARATUS) and using a very SUFFICIENTLY ADEQUATE NUMBER OF THIS TYPE CRUISE-MISSILE (say two hundred and ninety eight such cruise-missiles) could ALL TOO easily be launched to PERFECTLY nullify a surprise massive-number of enemy ICBM, HELL-BOMB, MISSLES NUMBERING AS HIGH AS seventy one hundred enemy ICBM SUPER-BOMB missiles.

The nuclear bomb warhead vaporizing capacities (plural) of such laser-cannon would TOTALLY & COMPLETELY eliminate RADIATION-POISON from H-Bomb nuclear explosions BY instantly burn-vaporizing ALL fissionable & fusionable nuclear bomb materials in the oncoming enemy missiles nose-cone warhead and & thus, no resultant H-Bomb explosion could ever happen to cause radio-active poisons to fall from OUR American skies on our American people and our children.

Such a missile, equipped in this way (but improved with T.V. "eyes" to insure fail-safeness of aiming radar) MOST CERTAINLY WOULD STALE-MATE MASSIVE MISSLE ATTACK.

C.M. Allende #8 March 7, 1977

Now, let us return from my digression on ancient UFO "DRAGONS-INVISIBLE" of asiatic legend and their "flaming-eyes" LASER Canon to the more related problem of correcting your non-official "official" informants MIS-information.

On second thought, now, there were THREE articles on or pertaining to invisibility of the DE-173, its crew and its SISTER-ship in ASIATIC waters, one in late January of 1944, the other in mid or late February (or early March) of 1944, PLUS the "MANS" or "MALE" magazine article: total = THREE.

As far from many invisible ships the U.S. Navy had THEN, it was only & merely & solely two such TOTALLY invisible ships (how many the U.S. Navy now has probably numbers well OVER a thousand, today with MORE coming each day.

THE ABOVE REVELATION CLARIFIES & CORRECTS YOUR JUBILANT STATEMENT OF A PREVIOUS TO PRESENT (Sept. 26th) missive that says "you're right, Al, there WERE two articles." There were NOT, but, there were two ships and 3 articles.

Now, let us get back to your MIS-informing friends photocopied letter enclosed in your letter of Sept. 26th, 1977.

C.M. Allende #9 March 7, 1977

In that photocopied letter your friend says, in truly weird error, that "the S.S. Andrew Furuseth sailed (for voyage number FOUR - - A YEAR LATER THAN VOYAGE NUMBER THREE the which LATER VOYAGE was the voyage I sailed my very first trip on the Furuseth) from LYNHAVEN, Virginia and IMPLIES that it was from LYNHAVEN, VA. That the Furuseth sailed on October 16th, 1943.

I do not know where LYNHAVEN, VA. Is but I do know that on Voyage number THREE we sailed FROM THE DOCK in Norfolk or Newport News, V.A. and went out to the roadstead of Hampton Roads, V.A. and there we stopped still in the water or anchored til we could obtain pilot service and obtain pilot service or discharge the pilot we had already aboard and obtain last-minute weather reports, convoy position corrections, secret order pouch and in case of whiskey or so for our alcoholic captain who stayed drunk to MID-[sic].

C.M. Allende #10 March 7, 1977

- stayed drunk til MID-OCEAN & then "surfaced" from his liquid sea of booze to come up on the flying bridge (TOP-SIDE) and exclaim "WELL, WELL, WELL, WHAT DO YOU KNOW? WE ARE STILL HERE !!!" He was TOTALLY & amazedly ASTOUNDED to see that "green" maritime trained sailors on this very first ship at sea, had not, by some incalculable & "unreasonable" means, managed to "accidentally sink his ship."

He went back below to his Captains Cabin and "immersed" himself in ANOTHER sea of booze tilAFTER we hit the straits of Gibraltar & "THE TRAP" there.

Your informant says: S.S. Andrew Furuseth was built in Richmond, California. I myself told you just as much when I said she was "commissioned in Richmond, California" Ships are usually commissioned where they are built and usually commissioned prior to launching. I'd read the "commissioning plaque" welded onto the outer fore-front of the officers Dining Salon so many, many times it was glued into my memory, the which is -

C.M. Allende #11 March 7, 1977

- is, as you SEE more than sufficiently correct.

I do know, also, that Voyage number THREE, the voyage I myself was aboard her, had a Bosun named Herman Carl Schultz or Carl Herman Schultz of Brooklyn, New York, New York STATE.

I still yet owe Bosun Schultz three dollars of the EIGHT that I bet him that he did not have the courage to ever DARE, in those days of both crew-cut & clipper-short military hair style, & when ALL MEN WERE BEARDLESS, to actually go home to Brooklyn WITH HIS QUITE LONG BEARD STILL FLOURISHING ON HIS HIRSUTE PHYSIOGNOMY.

HE DID & I LOST & PAID HIM A FIVE spot 1 1/2 years LATER in San Francisco, during the very first U.N. [?] Formation meeting held at the time.

He was a brave & VERY generous & warm hearted man who spoke German or English with equal ease of fluency and also taught me to splice steel-wire cables. He, single-handed & almost unaided by us "green" sailors, bought and drank an ENTIRE HOGGSHEAD BARREL FULL OF ALGERIAN FRENCH ROSE WINE obtained in Mostaganem, Algeria. A donkey and a cow pulled the monstrously sized wagon on which was LOADED THE HOGGSHEAD ON TOP OF WHICH SAT HERMAN

C.M. Allende #12 March 7, 1977

- astride the hoggshead like a victorious cowboy singing a bawdy song, waving a magnum of wine and in the world's most horribly guttural French, urging on the two emaciatedly gaunt wrecks of mismatched "beasts of burden" (Schultz in this case) that were groaningly pulling the wagon, the hoggshead and the triumphant Bosum.

He, Bosum Schultz really should be awarded the merchant marines Medal of Supreme Merit. For, according to all the war history and war novels & books I have but read on World War II, HE WAS THE ONLY American combatant to have ever bought a full hoggshead of wine and he is the only American combatant to have not only DRANK it, but also to have actually IMPORTED FRENCH wine into Naples, Italy, an area FAMOUS for its wines, and then shared it with the thirsty populace of Naples. An act of such collossally generous magnitude as to have brought resounding acclaim he received for so doing from the singularly starving (LITERALLY) and loudly appreciative Neapolitans.

We of the S.S. Andrew Furuseth were in Naples during the world's most perfectly executed surprise air-raid: THE GREAT BARI RAID upon Bari, Italy by the German luftwaffe…

C.M. Allende #13 March 7, 1977

The Germans pretended to be trying desperately to attack Naples by air and came overhead Naples one artificially fogged-up night. A full million TONS of high explosive bombs, each capable of gutting a 10,000 ton Liberty ship, flew soaring over our heads and then suddenly disappeared, to our immense relief and to the horrible & shocking SURPRISE of the inhabitants of Bari just immediately to the dead-East of the Naples coast.

We took on 500 German prisoners as "passengers" to the worlds very freest land, America, and in fluent guttural Brooklyn German Bosun Schultz gave away almost half of our available food supplies to those of the German supermen who would work on deck with & for us. Seventeen or nineteen days out of Norfolk, VA. We ran TOTALLY & COMPLETELY out of food.

The German army prisoners fed us out of THEIR own food supplies deftly STOLEN from their own prisoner kitchen. Without the help of the German army which all America & the whole world was fighting AGAINST, we of the S.S. Andrew Furuseth would of the grimmest certainty HAVE actually died of too real STARVATION. The German army's act of wholesome & steady generosity to her ENEMIES in wartime was -

C.M. Allende #14 March 7, 1977

NEVER BEFORE been revealed but we of S.S. Andrew Furuseth would long decades ago have perished utterly without that German army's overly generous assistance. Done just exactly when had that German army not fed us, we WOULD have been so debilitated from hunger that that army's prisoner soldiers actually could have THEN taken-over & captured our ship and too easily FORCED us to sail our/their ship to Germany. They did not ease-up in the slightest from continuing to feed us and OFTEN go-hungry THEMSELVES for so doing.

For, you see, they, those God-blest German enemies, fed us their own meals which they regularly flung into our deathly quiet focsles (sailors quarters). For these continued acts of hear gladdening generosity to an ENEMY (US AMERICANS) during wartime those German army soldiers received an equally generous SALUTE to their humanitarianism. A HUGE German swastika flag was flown in the German army's honor as we of the S.S. Andrew Furuseth sailed into the great Virginia Roadstead. See "READERS DIGEST" ARTICLE TITLED "THE DAY HITLER INVADED AMERICA" date unknown but probably published about 25 years ago [early 1950's].

SOMETIMES MEN AND NATIONS MUST HAVE SUCH TRULY MAGNIFICENT "ENEMIES" TO BE INSPIRED OURSELVES TO GO ON TO A HIGHER GREATNESS AND ALSO, TO MERELY SURVIVE SO AS TO ARRIVE TO THE DAY WHEN SUCH TRUE GREATNESS HAS BECOME AN ACTUAL REALTY.

C.M. Allende #15 March 7, 1977

An added footnote to the story of those truly "SUPER" German soldier "SUPERMEN"" of the S.S. Andrew Furuseth is the very appropriate reward their generous magnanimity brought them: they ALL, every last man-jack of them, spent the remaining two years of the war in sunny, warm, palm festooned Sacramento, California. I think that never before has America so fittingly & aptly rewarded "enemies." You see, after a brief telephone conversation with their commanding officer, those German "enemies" whose "INVASION" had scared-the-living-hell-out-of all nearly Washington, D.C., were sent to that California paradise on orders of Americas fluent German-speaking Commander-in-Chief, President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Who, though having also had the living-hell-scared out of HIM was as equally if not surprisingly magnanimous in his generous forgiveness & appreciation of a good joke, well done.

P.S. as for who put up that German "honoring" flag we of the Furuseth are closely SWORN to TOTAL (and guilty) secrecy.

Now for more of your mis-informing "friend." Your friend says the same thing I said when I revealed that the Furuseth was a Matson shipping lines ship. HOWEVER, THOUGH -

C.M. Allende #16 March 7, 1977

Your mis-informing "friend" does state that "FOR THE FOURTH voyage" the Furuseth was in Norfolk from 4th October to the 25th of October and this is entirely correct for that FOURTH voyage, let us remember that, though herein HE says "of 1943," that FOURTH voyage took place in 1944. Your mal-informing "friend" (I prefer to do without such "friends") also states that the Furuseth sailed from Virginia's Portsmouth, Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton Roads, shipping area just as I, also, have previously stated. He corroborates & verifies that the Furuseth was in ORAN, Algeria where Dr. Albert Einstein instructed me in TRULY Einsteinian physics as I have stated, also, before now, and says (erroneously) that we (Furuseth) ran into a "Strong GALE blowing up from the South Coast" which "did NOT quite attain Hurricane status" (FORCE ?).

Well, we of that convoy were INSIDE the well-formed "EYE" of that storm and ONLY a hurricane attains & has an "eye" and we sailed all around the outer edge of that inner "eye" and we fought that hurricane with millions of tons of sprayed water from all of the convoy ships firehose and we so quickly & effectively reduced the force of that hurricane season hurricane that we sailed in peace & sunlight two days late instead of FIGHTING IT ALL THE TRIP LONG.

C.M. Allende #17 March 7, 1977

However, in October of 1944, during that self-same "Hurricane Season" there WAS a full-gale of OVER full-gale proportions that, also, "came up from the S.E." Your confused "friend" had better quit reading two log books at the same time & "homogenizing" info gleaned from the TWO into ONE all-mixed-up mess of "FACTS."

The science of meteorology THEN was NOT 1/10th as accurate as it now is today but if there is any doubt that the convoy that contained the Furuseth was actually in an actual real HURRICANE (were you there, Charlie?) then please contact one of the world's more well known "semi-authorities on hurricanes in the Hurricane Belt during the Hurricane Season: his name is Mr. Richard Millhouse Nixon who now resides in San Clemente, California but whom I'm dead-certain was FORCED by his "then" occupation to go through that October 1943 hurricane while a soldier on Ascension Island, mid-Atlantic and did so during October 1943.

Another such authority is Einstein's son probably still yet a professor at UCLA in California. AND if you will NOT believe either Einstein's own son nor the President-post of the United States (& in the latter case nobody blames you) please DO as I asked you & obtain a copy of "SHIPS ARTICLES" for October 18th, 1943. It has the names of ALL Furuseth crew who WITNESSED ALL THAT YOU SNEER AT.

C.M. Allende #18 March 7, 1977

THEN GO INTO U.S. Coast Guard archives & get the "ships LOG-BOOK" for Voyage #3, October 18th, 1943 in which BOTH chief mate (surrogate Captain) Arthur Cook Maundsley AND Boatswain (Bosun) Herman Carl Schultz are listed as being respective crew members of S.S. Andrew Furuseth.

THEN CONTACT THE MATSON SHIP LINES, MARINE PERSONNEL DEPT., MATSON BUILDING, DOWNTOWN, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. The chief of marine personnel: RECORDS there will give you the names of ALL crew members Bosun Schultz, Carl M. Allen A.B., O.S., William Ripley A.B., Peter (?) CONNELLEY O.S. (BOTH of the Boston area), "Splicey" Price O.S. & Arthur C. Maundsley, chief mate. (He had his masters (captains) license & as such was TOPS. I visited him and his then nine years old son RICHARD Maundsley while in New York in February of 1944 to take my schooling & exams for my Able (A.B.) SEAMANS license. (I am possibly THE ONLY known American to have made ONE single two & a half month trip & gotten a license usually requiring three YEARS of at sea experience prior to being permitted to "sit" in examinations for such "OLD SALTS" license).

RICHARD Maundsley, "the chief's" SON was particularly devoted to his only living parent, his dad Arthur Cook Maundsley, so AS HE WOULD BE 43 years of age & PASSIONATELY LOVED SHIPS HE IS A SAILOR -

C.M. Allende #19 March 7, 1977

Or has been a sailor of our now defunct merchant marine and his name & home address, Richmond, STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. will all too quite probably appear in the U.S. Maritime Commissioner's office records; (of the U.S. Maritime Commission itself) Washington, D.C. Ask and ye shall receive of the good commissioner. (ALSO ask HIM, the commissioner, for HIS copy of the S.S. Andrew Furuseth's "SHIPS ARTICLES" for October 18, 1943, voyage number THREE & then for HIS list of ALL the sailors and their "Z" (I.D.) numbers and after that, write him and use those "Z" numbers to obtain those SAILORS listed on "SHIPS ARTICLES" last known address. Then, Mr. Moore, have the good sense to WRITE to those WITNESSING men, Bosun Herman Carl or Carl Herman Schultz along with these witnesses. YOU WILL LEARN MORE this way than your doubting-Thomas intellect will care to learn but I guarantee you that you will LIKE it.

Arthur C. and Richard Maundsley were close CONFIDANTS and so it goes without saying that at SOME time or other "the chief" Arthur C. Maundsley DID mention or told the whole, entire, complete, full story in good details of that almost incredible voyage of the Furuseth. An ad in the Staten Island NEWSPAPER WILL PRODUCE RESULTS.

C.M. Allende #20 March 7, 1977

Z-416175

As for being enabled to contact our ships ONLY real traditional & professional sailor who was along with seaman Richard Price, on my "watch" (the 4 to 8 watch is always the chief mates watch). I advise contacting the PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE, R.I. & ask for the name of the two leading NEWSPAPERS both in Providence and ALSO for two more OTHER newspapers that are both area & REGIONAL leaders covering the widest area thereabout.

THEN PLACE A THIRTY Dollar advertisement in all FOUR newspapers but especially place an ad in the two papers that are the most popular (amongst NANTUCKET Islanders) paper in the Nantucket Island - Martha's Vineyard NATIVE population (the WINTER people who live there ALL year round are NATIVES. The "SUMMER people" are not & are merely vacationers).

In this way you will get a reply from my other focsle and "watch" mate with the mop of kinky blonde hair whom we all called "whitey" of NANTUCKET ISLANDS NATIVES. IN FACT BY USE OF THIS METHOD OUTLINED ABOVE ANY, EVERY & ALL WITNESSES STILL YET LIVING IN THE ENTIRE U.S.A. WHO WITNESSED THE INVISIBILITATION OF (REPEATED) OF D.E. 173 CAN BE FOUND, WRITTEN TO & FINALLY INTERVIEWED IN PERSON.

C.M. Allende #21 March 7, 1977

Now, being that you SNEER at obtaining, actual, real, living, TALKING, witnesses who WILL refute your denigrating mocking stance, we will get back again to your MIS-informing "friend's" photocopied letter (you have the original?). In it he says "Furuseth arrived in Oran, Algeria on the 12th of November" we did not because I NOW recall that we arrived on the 11th and DOCKED on the twelfth of November and at about 04:30 P.M. of that same day Dr. Albert Einstein called on me to ask "WHAT DID YOU SEE?" "WHAT DID YOU FEEL?" "WHAT DO YOU THINK?" because I was AND STILL YET AM THE ONLY living person who observed at VERY CLOSE range the DE-173 in the act of becoming invisible AND who plunged my arm half to the elbow INTO that stupendously colossal whirling-whizzing force-field and LIVED to tell about it.

To DO this I had to plunge both hand and arm through a thick SHEET (VAN ALLEN BELT) of EXTREMELY HIGH VOLTAGE FREE-FLOWING ELECTRICITY. "WHY WERE YOU NOT KILLED???" Der gut Herr Doktor Einstein asked me. My reply DELIGHTED him and we fast became friends that day. HE WAS DEEPLY CONCERNED ABOUT MORAL ASPECTS OF INVISIBILITY.

C.M. Allende #22 March 7, 1977

And when after preliminary fumbling around for the best way to put his question to me about moral effects on my own, then, youthfully young generation and what THAT generation really, honestly, DEEPLY felt about the coming "age of invisibility," he then asked me in both English and German because that question was of supremely paramount importance to him. Being young, callous, rough & brutally as barbarous as the young, hopefully, sometimes are, I replied in a blunt, forthright, crude, ILL-mannered & almost CRUEL way of thinking. HE CRIED - TEARS.

But as he turned away, he turned back and said to his, then, "chief-torturer," "DANKE, DANKE SER" then he said it in English "THANK YOU, THANK YOU, MUCH" and somehow that brave little giant managed an APPRECIATIVE smile. I felt blessed for, you see, THAT smile had all the instant forgiveness of a LITTLE CHILD forgiving his peer for something desperately NEEDED but which was a harsh, almost cruel, flow of information.

He KNEW, then, he had been entirely correct in HIS estimation of the whole human species THE which estimate had caused him, I later realized, to withdraw his SECOND Unified Field Theory. Stung & hurt by the knowledge I had hurt, really, a little child, I called him and he turned & came back & THEN I told him of the "Beauties" of & Blessings to all mankind invisibility WILL BRING.

C.M. Allende #23 March 7, 1977

Then after I had finished struggling with my halting, stumbling, awkward attempt at what REALLY was an apology - he shook my hand and said, "I will come back - tomorrow" & gaily, even cheerily, he waved at me as he walked back to his own DE-173 experimental ship.

The next day he asked me a question that TODAY, NOW faces ALL humankind in all its cunning intensity. My reply at age 18 years was "I DON'T KNOW" and so he saw that for me to HAVE a basis of knowledge to SUFFICIENTLY enable me to give an adequate reply to that question (he MUST have lain all night thinking it up) he saw he would, necessarily, HAVE to teach me PHYSICS.

The day previously he had, I see, already given me a VERY thorough intelligence test and perhaps on the high sea a day or so after I had plunged my arm into his unique force-field he had had the experimental DE-173 come VERY VERY close again to S.S. Andrew Furuseth while I was again on the lookout OBSERVING position on the ship bow, he had then begun his interest in a person evincing TOO much of that HIGH intellect-indicating quality: CURIOSITY.

He'd warmed to me and I to him that second or third high-seas encounter. He'd seen my face and was satisfied that he would know me when we arrived in Oran.

C.M. Allende #24 March 7, 1977

I do not wonder that our two ships were docked so VERY close to one another, I think he, himself, contrived it. How else could he, Einstein, get close enough to converse with the one man who had exulted & rejoiced, yes, nearly CHEERED his most magnificent experiment after having felt the tremendous impetus of his unique force-field. It is all every quite probable I was & am the only man alive who, being as I had shared his grand experiment in such a truly unique way, COULD answer his question "WHAT IS THE UNIVERSE, IS IT ONE A …and "WHY IS MAN ???" this question he started to try to elicit an answer from a truly lesser intellect.

What morals caused such desperation only he & I had known, but he tried to get his answer out of me by first giving me a BASIS that would enable me to sufficiently give answer to all three parts of his question. "Should mankind go to the stars & if so can mankind remain moral & ethical & as wistrous [sp?] as he is now last when man has become invisible??? I.E. What is man ???? and, in effect, "Was it right for me to make men to become invisible???" and so, to get his answers and to plant seeds of TRULY ADVANCED knowledge in an intellect given to deep thought, he began be using the SOCRATIC -

C.M. Allende #25 March 7, 1977

Method, of teaching, honed and informal & raised to new & far more instructive & productive + of technique. That very first session he teased, tantalized, titillated & almost taunted and INSPIRED my mind [u]til after 03:00 A.M. when in my exhaustion I exclaimed "Ich muss geschlaff" I must go sleep & staggered wearily off after "aufwiedersehen" to crash into my focsle bed & sleep [u]til breakfast time.

Thirteen or fourteen solid hours of "instruction" by Albert Einstein are equivalent to ten years in college. I ought to know…because I learned THAT the hard way.

The search, the ever on-going search for answers to his (actually FOUR part) question consumed over 24 years of my adult life. DO not attempt answering them for it would entail wandering gypsy-like from compass to compass to more campuses & on & on & ON from special professor to special professor to ever more uniquely special professors to find those answers.

While at Oran, I did answer ONE part of his question in such a hillbillyishly unique way of putting it in my raised up his head and laughed "THAT'S RIGHT, YOU ARE CORRECT." I now do not recall whether I was correct or not but his full swing becoming smile of APPROVAL was REWARD SUPREME.

C.M. Allende #26 March 7, 1977

Now for your mis-informing "friend's photocopied letter. In it he says the "Furuseth remained in Oram 6 days before sailing from the coast to Mostaganem.

Well in those days it required a minimum of two WEEKS to unload a normally loaded ship and the S.S. Furuseth had an enormous amount of DECK-CARGO positioned on her fore and aft decks which required at least one extra day to unload. THEREFORE, considering we "stood-out" in the bay for one day also, it is all TOO LOGICALLY probable we were in Oran for sixteen (16) days not merely six (6) days. I know I received a complete university education from [unintelligible] Herr Doktor Einstein in TWELVE days and therefore I know we of the Furuseth were there for at least 13 days.

TODAY A CONTAINER-CARGO ship can be unloaded in only a mere six (6) days, YES, but the container ship had not yet been invented in 1943. So, logically the Furuseth was in Oran for 16 (sixteen) days, not six.

In Mostaganem we took on a cargo of gasoline in five [?] gallon cans, and THIS was done rather quickly but we returned, anchored ONE day, got the mail (and some goat-skin flasks for generous Bosun Schultz hogshead of wine) THEN next day put out for Augusta [sp?], then Naples but on that trip, voyage #3,

C.M. Allende #27 March 7, 1977

The S.S. Andrew Furusteh did not go to Bizente [sp?] with a cargo of five hundred German soldier prisoners. We went right straight back to Oran, thence to Norfolk & the flag incident. It required 31 (thirty one) days to get from Oran to Norfolk and we helped sink an enemy submarine while making that incredibly hungry - stormy voyage. (I still remember the BIG BLOBB of orange marmalade we all got at every "meal." TO THIS VERY DAY I hate orange marmalade). Sure, we finally ran out of orange marmalade and thus out of "meals" but the man doing his "trick" at the wheel was the ONLY person who actually had any work in the last week.

We tried to build a fire ON THE WOODEN DECK but and angry, then concerned Navy or Coast Guard Lieutenant had one of his men get an AMBULANCE to haul we emaciated and literally STARVED half-dead human wrecks to a restaurant. Arriving back-home in an AMBULANCE is NOT, repeat, NOT the best way to make your grand entry onto the stage of life, but it was the only way possible. You see, we could not walk. We were TOO, TOO debilitated to even go back aboard ship again. We did NOT arrive in Norfolk on the 17th of January, 1944 but on the 14th of January, 1944. Your "mis-informing friend" evidently got his reference pages mixed up again while reading dataf or voyage #4 (four) which in part DID occur in 44 but in October of 1944. Next time when he reads a reference page have him double-check BOTH voyage number AND date. PLEASE. TWO "GOOD FRIEND" CREW MATES ROBBED ME of $570.00 dollars at VOYAGE END.

However, all that I say herein could be wrong. For we were in no shape to PERFECTLY recall what had transpired the month priorly but then neither, too, were the keeper of the ship's log, the sodden, inebriated captain who may QUITE EASILY have bleary-eyedly & blind-drunkenly staggered & stumbled through the mere alcoholic pretense of "keeping up" the log as was HIS sole responsibility to do so each day (when he could fumble & stumble his way out of his drunk-head, that is). The reason we could not go to Bizente in North Africa was simply because I believe it to have then (Dec. 1943) to have been in enemy hands & remained so until spring of 1944 but I am not sure about THAT. Remember, I am sure that were Bizente in American hands, I know that Naples was only an invasion beachhead slightly enlarged and so therefore being as the American North African Army Corps. Had an unimaginably number of MOUNTAINS of war materials, tanks, planes, vehicles of all kinds & supplies still yet in Africa and being as ANZIO beachhead was not yet established in the first week of December 1943 and Rome was in enemy hands & so the push to Rome could not have started, we come to the logical deduction that there was NO ROOM nor REASON to go to Bizente for all those mountains of war materials/supplies so necessary to such a colossal "push-to-Rome" would REQUIRE.

As there evidently was not any REQUIREMENT due to lack of clear opportunity and NEED then logically we did not go to Bizente as all ships LATER did when the push-to-Rome made it IMPERITATIVE TO DO SO.
